Where do your donations go - How are they used?
Most Wilderness Search and Rescue teams in Virginia are non-profit, all volunteer groups.
As such, SMRG members donate their personal time to train several times each month and respond to missions 24x7x365 across VA/MD/WV/PA.
Urban SAR teams across the country are federally funded, equipped and trained. In contrast, SMRG relies on donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations to support the purchase of new equipment and supplies for operations and training.
When and if SMRG is called to respond to national incidents like Hurricane Katrina we depend entirely on donations to support our work.
SMRG would be grateful for your support. Thank you.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, SMRG keeps its operating costs to a minimum. Members are responsible for providing their own personal gear as well as transportation to and from rescue missions.
Search and rescue emergencies require specialized equipment, including communications and technical evacuation equipment, which are purchased and maintained by the group.
If you are interested in supporting wilderness search and rescue but are unable to participate directly in our activites, consider making a financial contribution to SMRG.
